Message from BAYT President,
Peter Feldman
Rosh Hashana
is a time of new beginnings.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome our new dynamic Rabbi, teacher and spiritual leader, Daniel Korobkin and his entire family to the "BAYT" - Beth Avraham Yoseph Congregation of Toronto. This is an exciting time in the history of our synagogue to have such an accomplished rabbinical leader continue the tremendous legacy of the BAYT.
We would like to invite you to consider joining our wonderful shul and make the BAYT your home.
It is a time for serious reflection and self examination, a time to consider the past as we look to the amazing future.
The community will recognize that we are privileged to have such a rich and vibrant past on which to build upon. Borne from the vision and generosity of founding benefactor Joe Tanenbaum z’l, the BAYT has become home to one of the largest, most dynamic and most diverse Orthodox communities outside of Israel.
Our community has benefitted from this great institution where well over a thousand people attend weekly Shabbat minyanim and tens of thousands of guests annually attend simchas, fundraisers and other events. We have the most comprehensive and best-value simcha venue in the greater Toronto area with one of the finest and most versatile of caterers. Visitors to the BAYT come away awed and inspired by our shul’s presence and richness. We invited you to become a member and not a visitor. We want you to make the BAYT your home.
Building on our successes, I am pleased to report that the BAYT’s Board of Governors has authorized the creation of several committees, run by our fine men and women members, to undertake significant projects that will help us evolve as we face new challenges and opportunities moving forward. These committees will help our shul develop a five-year strategic plan. This year you will experience a broader offering of adult education programs, as well as an expansion of youth, teen and social programs. For the thousands of shiurim hours we have had in the past, there will be more choice of interesting topics that will engage more of our members and the community at large.
To help realize these projects, we encourage the participation and input of all of our members – in any capacity. Your board of governors, its committees and our Rabbi and staff are all committed to engaging with our members to strive towards a greater feeling of community than ever before. Invigorated by David HaMelech’s words, Hinei Ma Tov Umanayim, Shevet Achim Gam Yachad - How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity, we will continue to flourish.
At this time of renewal, I ask everyone to join me in recognizing our hundreds of volunteers, and all of the shul’s dedicated staff, without whom the BAYT wouldn’t be where it is today. To the many members who have recently become more involved and dedicated to ensuring our future success – kol hakavod! New members are encouraged to get involved too.
On behalf of my wife Debbie, and our children, I wish each and every one of our members a K’siva V’chasima Tova. May all of our prayers be heard and may the New Year bring good health, much nachas, shalom and exaltation to you and to all of Klal Yisroel. May we see all our brothers and sisters redeemed from captivity and spared from all forms of persecution, and may we merit to see the Moshiach this year.
